“Carlton” of Fresh Prince Shares Insight on Will Smith-Janet Hubert Controversy

Recently, Janet Hubert called Will Smith an A-hole for getting her fired from the Fresh Prince series in the ’90s. However, Alfonso Ribeiro gave his own insight as to why she was really fired years ago, during a stand-up routine. Ribeiro suggests that Hubert was bad for the cast, and that Smith wasn’t wrong to want her off the show.

      I saw her Life After documentary. She admitted she acted badly. “Could have acted better”, I believe she said. Also, she was pregnant and having a difficult time.

    Haha this is the first time I’ve ever posted on one of these but kudos to Big Brutus! You are so right. Folks get so sucked up by pop culture that they tend to want to voice their opinions when they don’t even know these people. As far as you know Will smith could be the biggest butt hole alive. YOU DONT KNOW THESE PEOPLE! They are called actors for a reason. Grow up Diva and this goes to all you other delusional, disfunctional, neophytes.     @4:55 he call her the “dark skin one right” and he said “that was the mom on the ugly set”…they really hate her. Why?  I would like to know where her anger steem from, there just has to be a real reason for her anger… they dismis her with the crazy and coco name calling. was Will carzy and coco also…He ruled the set (their jobs) he gets a pass? She wouldn’t let him rule her ,,,so she was fired. sad!

        The audience member called here the “dark skinned one”.  He just confirmed.  Chill out.  Its just as racist to prefer her over Daphne Reed just because you relate to the “darker” mom.  She acted like a B and got fired…move on.  If it wasn’t the case, how come no one else hired her?   Bad attitudes ruin careers.

    It’s interesting. I guess at the end of the day, their friendship was more important than the work and “Auntie Viv” was there to work. Anyway, Alfonso should keep it professional and refrain from referring to her as “crazy.” They were obviously very group-minded and she was not. She was outnumbered – it’s as simple as that. She was thinking about her own career while he was more concerned about friendship and social bonding – she had a kid to take care of and he was living with his parents. At the end of the day neither of them are getting any work, so they both fail… and Will Smith wins because he was able to place equal importance on both areas of his life.

    This is sad, even after Spike Lee making School Daze Lite-Skin and Dark Skin sometimes  cannot get along in a closed in setting  She probably struggled with feeling upbeat.  The Angry Man or Angry Woman routine will not always make it happen. Am I the only one that notices that she is the only Dark Skinned One?  I am not going to say too much more on this and embarrass black folks but you guys definitely see what the issues.  I would have shown her more understanding but I am sure she had a chip on her shoulder.   @justtwo post what you are saying also is a valid analysis but its not the entire story.  They all had families and employability rules are the same for all, Carlton just followed them whether it was contrived behavior or a natural flow for him thats just a needed reality when it comes to the workplace.  On the harcore side, our more Misanthropic brethren whether lite-brite or down-home if the place would have been filled up with more of thattype she would have survive but the Bourgeouse credentials and mental conditioning  were to solid in Will and the Rest to tolerate that.

    truthfully.. the show is called the fresh prince of Bel Air.. the rest are just supporting cast and can be replaced.. This has nothing to do with her skin color but how she acted out..

      Please Spare me the condescension. My response is about a little more than Skin color, her attitude is what makes her act out and her acting out is due to whatever complexes she may have developed related to how she perceives the World relating to her based on her skin color and further how she internalizes that.   She has a higher probability of being misanthropic. Am I saying that all Darker Skinned Blacks develop such persecution complexes?
       No but it is not far fetch to speculate that maybe she has . Persecution Complexes and Bad attitudes can develop no matter the color or shade of the black person.  You assume that she acted out.  Who even says that she even did that.  People are simple let go sometimes because they do not fit into the “Office Culture”. Will the employer tell a terminated employee that, “Hey I am letting you go because you just are not Fitting in”?  No, most will not. Jazzy Jeff is a darker person and he did a great job of fitting in and playing his lane, clearly he did not internalize his experiences negative which leads to attitude problems and work place dysfunction.  Work place dymanics are serious issue.  Please contribute something a little better than this over simplification of the matter of  Will being the Big Dog her having acted out.  Please give the black folks and especially creative and constructive ones a little more credit than reducing everything down to “Big Egos” and smaller “egoes”.  Our livelihoods and well being as a group  and individuals way more important than that.  i can even see what the person Mb said about the entire Male cast and Producer possibly being gay and that could have drove her nuts possibly. To understand is to care.
