BET: “Sexual Abuse in Our Families”

BET looks into sexual abuse among black families. One out of four women has been sexually abused as a child, and of that statistic, around 3.3 million are black. One out of six men has has been sexually abused as a child, and of that fraction, about 1.9 million are black.

    Very moving!!  I am fortunate that I never experienced any form of abuse as a child..I also had parents that continually told me about certain things to look out for instance, no secrets from Daddy or Mummy, places where no one should ever touch me, tell Daddy and Mummy everything etc. I was only occasionally allowed to stay over night elsewhere. I remember getting to around 9 or 10 and thinking my parents were different and a bit mean (not allow to have sleepovers..etc) but they clearly were not, they were prepping me for a situation I ‘could’ encounter.  
    Parent’s need to educate their kids from a young age…the book mentioned in the video sounds good.  Child abusers need to be stopped!!

    sexual abuse in families happen among all ethnicities

    not just african american families

    my family has predators and we are not african american

    one of my gramps was a predator
    my cousin was a predator
    a step uncle was a predator
    etc….
