Word on the Street: Is it Okay for Mary J. Blige to Sing About Fried Chicken?

Bossip’s Jay asks pedestrians whether they feel comfortable with Mary J. Blige singing about friend chicken in a Burger King ad. Some interviewees are sympathetic to Blige, citing her need, like any other artist’s, to make money. However, the singer doesn’t go completely unscathed altogether.

I didn’t immediately assign a racial stereotype to this commercial.  I like chicken, fried, baked, rotisserie or in a casserole.  I like BK’s chicken better than Mickey D’s chicken.  I like KFC over Churches, but KY is home and his recipe is not like my mom’s chicken.  People need to get over themselves.  Everything is not about race, but that is not the PC line and is contrary to the Revs and other black leaders.  If you keep picking the scab a wound can never heal.  Pride can be a powerful tool or a weapon.  One needs to have good self-esteem, but pride for the sake of pride is a sin.  For me it is a matter of degree.
