Alabama Judge Jails Man for Wearing Sagging Pants to Hearing

Alabama judge John Bush found Lamarcus Ramsey in contempt for wearing sagging pants in court, and sentenced him to three days in jail. Auguta County Circuit Clerk Whit Moncrief said that no had had ever gone to jail for a dress code violation before. Ramsey was out on bond and was only present for a plea hearing; if his pants had been pulled up, he would have gone home.

    I am glad. This trend was started in prison to let other inmates know you were ready for some loving. We need to do better. The pants have sagged lower and lower as the years are going by. Kids might as well just go out in their drawers. It is a disgrace.

    I don’t like sagging pants as much as the next person BUT this is a “free” country and you have the right to wear whatever you want. I also don’t like fat women in spandex but you can’t legislate against someone’s personal fashion regardless of how stupid it is.

My reasoning is I believe Black men are unfairly attacked with this sagging pants phenomenon. To order jail time for a poor choice of clothing is in MY OPINION ( we’re still allowed to have those right?) overkill. I would understand a fine or a few hours of community service, but JAIL over PANTS?? Come on, instead of supporting those who target Black men for how they look we need to be more tolerant of others. This is NOT an attempt to make an excuse and we SHOULD teach our young men better. But the courtroom is not the place. Do you know how courts work?? If they’ll uphold this, then they’ll uphold another similar ruling further infringing our rights. 3. Again, I beg of you, chill.

      It is a free country BUT…sagging pants are offensive and disrespectful. It also puts that person in an automatic stereotypical category and they could really be a very smart and articulate person. It projects a very negative image. There are several types of offensive attire but sagging is # 1.

    Right On!!! I am so sick and tired of seeing both young men and older guys that are too old to be sagging…sagging. It is disgusting,disrespectful and down right ugly. It makes them walk like mutants and when the young guys that sag get older the are going to be walking like penguines because their bodies where still developing and that stupid awkward way of walking to keep the pants up caused deformity in their hips and legs.
