Kevin Costner spoke to Jay Leno about why he wanted Whitney Houston as the female lead in The Bodyguard. He explained that he preferred someone who could really sing to take the role, despite Houston’s lack of acting experience. Costner also discussed trying to reach her when he knew she was going through tough times.
