A black 13-year-old boy was killed by his white 75-year-old neighbor after the man accused the child of theft. The boy, Darius Simmons, was retrieving a trash can from the curb when the shooter, John Spooner, told him he wanted his possessions back. Simmons’ mother says that the boy’s hands were up in the air before being shot, and that he’d turned to run before he was shot again.
