Nas spoke with Soledad O’Brien and Roland Martin about why he wrote the song “Daughters.” He said that part of the reason for writing the song was in order to compensate for when he came up short as a father to his daughter. He also said that he hoped the single would embarrass her out of a certain behavioral pattern.
