Bossip interviewed Spike Lee about his newest film, Red Hook Summer. Lee said that he wanted to write a movie with a more positive representation of black kids than usual. Further, he said that he began plotting the film with the 13-year-old protagonist’s romance story as the movie’s central aspect.
