Oprah Winfrey asked about how Kerry Washington felt about being the first woman of color to lead a network drama in over 30 years. Washington confessed that she didn’t know exactly how significant her role on Scandal was for racial reasons before taking on the project. She also added that because of her relatively young age, she had never seen a woman of color lead a network drama in her lifetime.
